Critical Reflection of High Stakes Testings
After consideration of various impartial news articles and infographics explaining the initial intensions of developing NAPLAN and it benefits for educational stakeholder, I believe most of the research and analysis surrounding NAPLAN has negative implications. This national assessment seems not to operating in the way it was originally designed to do.
On the other hand, I believe that the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a beneficial for Australian students as the survey focuses on questions around how to apply knowledge into real-life situations rather than rote learning content. It also appears that there isn’t much research surrounding the negative affects of this survey, in comparison to NAPLAN. However, taking into account the results from the 2012 survey, it appears that Australia is not succeeding, compared to other countries, in English, Mathematics and Science. This suggests that Australian students are not meeting the international benchmark for education and state and federal governments should take that into consideration when allocating funds to education.
